SAH VIRTUAL 2023 / ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION: Expanding the Reach of Architectural History Journals: Rethinking Scope, Format, and Editorial Policies
September 21, 2023, Thursday @ 12:00–1:30 PM CDT // 20:00-21:30 IST
Kıvanç Kılınç from IZTECH Department of Architecture, who also serves as Editor of the International Journal of Islamic Architecture (IJIA), has organized and is moderating a roundtable discussion at VIRTUAL 2023 – The Society of Architectural Historians’ virtual conference. The event will take place on 21 September, 2023 (Thursday) at 20:00-21:30pm (IST): https://www.sah.org/2023.
This SAH VIRTUAL roundtable brings together editors from prestigious scholarly journals in the field of architectural and urban history to discuss the issues of accessibility, inclusivity, and outreach: How could architectural history journals further globalize and diversify their content? How could journal editors attract more submissions about the cities and architectures of underrepresented communities, institutions, and geographies? Could we design special issues and journal sections that cover research projects carried in emerging or niche research areas, and give voice to scholars outside of the well-known institutional, research, and funding networks? In what ways could academic journals accomplish these goals through editorial processes? Would developing new formats and content provide an answer? Finally, how should we push for more open-access journals and digital platforms to ensure a wide range of readership?
